Environmental Law: How does it help?

By Edilcia Perez

As more years pass, the more the environment is harmed, and when the environment is harmed, humans are harmed too. There are laws to protect the environment in order to protect humans on Earth. One important organization that preceded these laws is the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the United States. Environmental laws focus on protecting topics like air quality, water quality, waste regulation, chemical safety, ozone depletion, and the protection of biodiversity. Environmental justice is a component of environmental law. It addresses the injustice that the environment faces it also makes sure that all communities, regardless of race, ethnicity, or socio-economic status, enjoy the same level of environmental protection.

Although some laws are already set in place to protect the environment, the progression of environmental protection is needed. The Clean Air Act was a law passed in 1963. This act further funds air pollution control, it allowed the research to prevent polluted air from getting into human lungs. There are also environmental laws that protect forests, the Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service,

Department of the Interior’s Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), Department of the Interior’s National Park Service (NPS). Forests are important to protect because it’s a critical component to tackling global deforestation, nature loss, international crime, and climate change.

The further protection of animal endangerment is also very important to keeping the environment healthy to keep humans healthy. There are laws in California that protect birds, bird nests, cats, horses, sheep, and dogs. Protection for animals is a very important law that many animals face because of the lack of protection they have. For example, polar bears are losing their space to live every day as ice is melting at a rapid rate, the less land they have to call home, and it’s all for human survival.
